Jooyeon "Kelly" McManus

Jooyeon "Kelly" McManus – Grand Canyon University; Graduation: May 2025

I am a nursing student at Grand Canyon University, pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and expecting to graduate in May 2025. I began my nursing journey at Southwestern College, where I earned my Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) before advancing my education. Currently, I work as a Registered Nurse at a local hospital in the Trauma Progressive Care Unit (PCU), providing compassionate and evidence-based care to my patients.
My passion for psychiatric nursing began when I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a geriatric psychiatry unit. During that time, I had the opportunity to work alongside my preceptor, Dr. Consensci, who was a charge nurse at that time. I was inspired by her dedication and the way she cared for her patients. Before becoming a nurse, I worked in medical sales, but my desire to provide direct patient care led me to pursue a career in nursing. Psychiatry has always been an area of interest for me, as I find great fulfillment in supporting patients with mental health challenges. Through this practicum, I am eager to learn from Dr. Consensci’s vast experience and compassionate approach, further developing my skills in psychiatric nursing.

Nancy Saengsouriyo, BSN, RN – Hawaii Pacific University; Graduation: December 2025

My nursing experience includes critical care since 2018; I have been following Dr. Madalyn Cosensci for my clinical rotation for my Psychiatric Mental Health DNP through Hawaii Pacific University.
During my time with Dr. Cosensci, I have been thoroughly impressed and inspired by her dedication and passion for psychiatric mental health and how she can integrate her knowledge and experiences into her line of work to improve the lives of the individuals she treats. Through my observation, Dr. Cosensci harbors the skill to connect with her patients and empathize with them, building a trusting and safe connection.

What stood out for me is that Dr. Cosensci has a calm and confident approach to her patients and can empathize with each patient. She listens attentively to her patient and encourages and empowers them by meeting them in their current state, mentally and emotionally. Her professional approach to patient-centered care has shown me what is expected in exceeding excellent patient-centered care in psychiatry.
Dr. Cosensci has assisted me in my clinical skills growth and has become a role model for how I would like to apply to my practice as a future PMHNP-DNP. She has provided me with an invaluable experience, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity she has given me. She has left a lasting impression on me and my career goals.

I’m currently a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) student at Ohio University, graduating in May 2025.

I had the privilege of completing part of my clinical training at Hope & Heart, where I gained invaluable experience providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
Working alongside dedicated clinicians reinforced my belief in the power of empathy, active listening, and holistic support in mental health treatment. My time at Hope & Heart has been a meaningful part of my journey, and I’m grateful to carry these lessons forward as I continue to grow in this field.
